What is the Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo Switch is a new Home Console that turns into a Handheld so you can play your favourite Nintendo games on the go.



So, how does the console work? The main console part of the system is the main body in which you can detach from the dock. When placed within the dock it connects to your TV, you can then attach the Joy Cons to the grip and play as a normal console.

When taken out of the dock, you can attach the Joy Cons to the main part of the console and it turns into a handheld. Magic!! In this mode as well, you can detach the Joy Cons, use the stand for the Switch and play with the Joy Cons in your hand... Still on the go... So, if you're on a long train journey, a flight or on a road trip (and not driving), you can play Zelda, Mario and others where ever you are.

Now the next question... Joy Cons? - These are the new controllers which you use to play the Nintendo Switch with. They can be used in many different ways, and there are some games where you can use each left and right one as a separate so you can share with friends. Cool!! There is also going to be a more traditional Pro Controller that will be available, however this is going to be around the £60 mark and have to be purchased separately.



Lets talk about battery life! Nintendo has confirmed that the battery life of the Switch will last between 3 and 6 hours depending on the game being played. My understanding of that is for me personally, that is a good length of time, I know there are people who would play for longer, however for me that would be a decent amount of play time, and if I was somewhere with a plus socket, I could always plug in to keep my gaming going.

However, if I was truly out and about, I can't see me wanting to or having the time to play longer than the 3 hours minimum stated.

So then? When is the Switch going to be available?

The Switch will be available from March 3rd and it is priced at £279.99/$299.99. In the UK you can pre order from Amazon, Tesco, GAME and ShopTo, while in the US you can get a hold of one from Target, Best Buy, Walmart and GameStop.
